LISC vs. Rough Riders | Rover vs. Rover
Last night the Long Island Soccer Club EDP team played against the Rough Riders Winter Select team at Globall.
What was so special about this game was that two Rovers players were on the opposite sides of the ball for the first time.
Violet has been playing for the Long Island Soccer Club EDP Team for the past year. Lauren has just started playing for the Rough Riders Winter Select Team.
Violet and Lauren have been playing soccer together for FPSC for almost 5 years. They have a special bond both on the field and off. Their chemistry on the field is a result of years of practicing together, both with the Rovers and also extra practice sessions working on their skills, just the two of them. On the field, without looking, they instinctively know where the other one is at all times and they are fun to watch. Off the field, they walk to school together and are part of each other’s families.
I have coached these two girls for almost their entire travel soccer career in Floral Park. My goal as a coach is just to get all my players passionate about the game and enjoy playing and being part of a team. So to see these two players step out of their comfort zones and venture out on their own, trying out and playing for higher level programs and coaches, is something I never imagined.
To watch this game last night and see these two friends play and excel at such a high level of soccer was an amazing and emotional experience for me. I almost didn’t recognize them on the field. It was one of the best soccer games I have ever seen.
Remembering from when they started, and I was tying their cleats during practices, to where they are now, they have both worked so hard and come such a long way to become excellent soccer players, athletes, and young adults.
Words cannot express how very proud I am of both Lauren and Violet and look forward to seeing what their future holds for them both on the field and off.
